Hi there … I hope you had a good Xmas …

So, back to the real world now, unfortunately …

A new security issue has been discovered with Windows operating systems related to how they display Windows Metafiles shown on a webpage.

It seems as though it’s possible to sneak into computers and install spyware - even if the machine is running a completely up-to-date patched version of Windows XP SP2 and other Windows version may be vunerable too …

Rent The Web … All of It … From Amazon ..

Via Digg:

Rent the web. The whole web. From Amazon.com

Amazon.com owns Alexa (a small piece of the vast Amazon.com empire). As part of their many services, they keep a small backup of the internet, about 100 terabytes or so. You can rent that database and index it now, if you want.

Here’s the full story:

Right now it’s prohibitively expensive to crawl through the entire database, but not if you wanted to search and retrieve certain data …

I’m not sure exactly what this could be used for, but an interesting development nonetheless …

Yahoo Buys Del.icio.us

Posted on December 10th, 2005 in General | No Comments »

Yesterday Yahoo added another social tool to their collection of assets after purchasing the social bookmarking service, Del.icio.us …

“So?” you say …

I say “This is a BIG DEAL ™” …

Why? Companies like Yahoo, don’t just buy these sites for the hell of it … they’re either seeing monetary or promotional potential …

Del.icio.us allow users to post their Favorites/Bookmarks online to use from any computer, but also allows other people to view them too …

You can also tag the bookmarks so they’re organized and grouped together …

For instance, you might add my humble blog to your Del.icio.us account with the tag “internet marketing” …

You can search for tags on your own account, but more importantly, other people can too …

So if someone does a search on Del.icio.us for “internet marketing” your bookmark would show up …

“So? How is this news good for my business?”

Can you say “Viral Marketing” …?

You could generate some traffic, by getting a number of people to post a bookmark to your website in their Del.icio.us account …

What happens when a lot of people talk about a website …? People go and see what all the fuss is about … it’s the “social proof” (or watercooler) effect in operation …

Del.icio.us is just one of the Web 2.0 “tools” out there you can harness for your business … so get yourself an account and start generating some “buzz” …

What do you guys think …?
