It’s Good To Be Back!
Posted on May 4th, 2006 in General, Internet Marketing, Techie Stuff |
A big hello to all the new subscribers and who’ve joined since I was last in touch …
I hope you and your family are all healthy and well …
It’s been “all go†here and so I thought I’d better give you an update with what’s been going on, since I’ve been quiet for a while … which is unheard of for me, at least that’s what my wife says!
A couple of people have asked about the mysterious project I’ve spoken about previously …
Well …
There isn’t much to tell right now, final beta testing is underway, but I will say this:
I honestly believe this software has the potential to dramatically increase the sales of any product or service sold on any website by at least a factor of 10 and to my knowledge, there’s nothing out there as powerful …
Oh and it doesn’t have anything to do with building AdSense sites … Now that’s really got you thinking now, hasn’t it?
I promise I’ll be releasing more information about this very soon …
You’ve probably also heard the hype about a new service from marketer Cody Moya where (for $30/month) you get 10 public domain movies formatted to use for video iPods, Sony PSPs and other video devices …
I thought this sounded like a pretty good idea, but because I’m “tight”, I knew if I searched around I could probably find the same thing a lot cheaper. But like most ideas I have, life and work got in the way and I never followed up on it …
And then a couple of days ago, I got an email from Josh Anderson, of Total Web Audio fame, letting me know about a website where you can get over 1,000 (yes that’s right … 1,000) public domain videos, formatted for iPod and PSPs … completely free …
Here’s the URL:
http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com
As Josh says …
“If you really wanted you can use that resource and start your own service charging monthly fees for resources that are readily available on the internet for free exactly like Cody.”
Couldn’t have said it better meself … thanks for the tip, Josh!
If anyone else has any tips like these, email me and I’ll post them on the blog along with full credit and a link to your website!
+++++
I’d also like to say a big “Hello” to all the people I met at Jim Edwards eBook Workshop the weekend before last …
Some of you know I’ve worked with Jim and his Apprentices previously, but this was the first time I actually met him and his
lovely wife Terri …
We all had a great time and learned so much … I came away with untold pages of notes and dozens of ideas … thank goodness Jim gave everyone an Idea Journal to write them all down in …
If you get the chance to see Jim live, do it - you won’t regret it!
One of the main points Jim stressed was, not to go chasing after every “shocking new technique” or “incredible new software” that promises you whatever … until you’ve gone through the fundamentals first!
It sounds common sense, and yet this is one of the most common mistakes people make … getting diverted from doing the basics …
Some other common mistakes I’m constantly seeing are:
Mistake #1: Is Your Website A Glorified Online Brochure?
Posting your ‘mission statement’, your bio, some warm and fuzzy words and hoping that will magically transform into sales ISN’T the way to go.
If you’ve spent lots of time and money and haven’t got a return on your investment, there’s a good chance that you’ve simply created a glorified online brochure, when your website should be a direct response sales and marketing tool.
This means your website needs a focused objective, driven by good copy, compelling offers, and plenty of visitors. To find out how to achieve this, read on.
Mistake #2: Not Having A Clear ‘Most Wanted Response’
What do you most want a visitor to do when they visit your site?
- Join your newsletter list?
- Book a consultation?
- Call for more information?
- Recommend you to their friends and family?
- Order your product or service?
- All of the above?
Before you write a single word for your website, you need to outline specifically what your ‘most wanted response’ is from your visitors, then every piece of your communication should be geared to motivating your reader to take that action.
Mistake #3: Trying To Be All Things To All People
To grab your visitor’s attention, you need to have a clear and strong message that conveys WHO your website is for and WHAT you can do for them. But what people end up doing is offering a little bit of everything in the hope that something will appeal to the visitor. The net result is a diluted sales message that’s ineffective.
Mistake #4: Too Many Choices And Options
Give your visitor too many options and they’ll get confused. When people are confused they usually end up doing NOTHING. So both parties lose out. You lose out on a sale or a lead. The visitor misses out on the valuable benefits that you have to offer them. When it comes to your website, less is definitely more.
If you focus on just one thing (e.g. getting the visitor to join your newsletter list), you’ll have plenty of opportunity to start building a relationship and offer them lots of different things over time. But discipline yourself to focus on just one thing at a time.
Mistake #5: Giving Away Lots Of ‘Free Stuff’ To Try And Generate Business
Give away lots of free stuff and do you know who you will attract? Lots of freebie seekers! You need to find the balance between what you give away and what you charge for. Also, if you think that your ‘freebie’ will magically transform a subscriber into a paying client, you are mistaken. You also need to put an irresistible offer in front of them and ask for the business!
Mistake #6: Paying Thousands For A Website That Doesn’t Get Results
There are plenty of website developers who will be happy to relieve you of your hard earned cash in return for a lot of fluff and promise. I have heard horror stories of people paying as much as £7,500 for websites that do not work.
They don’t generate leads, they don’t bring in sales.
Let me tell you right away you don’t need to pay anything near that amount for a professional, functional website that delivers real sales results.
Mistake #7: A ‘Home Made’ Website That Looks Amateur!
So your brother in law’s next door neighbour took a local evening class and he’s offered to ‘do’ your website. Let’s get one thing clear right now. Taking a course at your local college or owning a book on HTML doesn’t make you a web designer!
I think you’ve heard me say that once or twice before …
Unless your brother in law’s next door neighbour is also a marketing expert and has proven experience creating direct response websites that bring in sales and profits, don’t let him near your website!
Mistake #8: Being Intimidated By Technology
Of course, part of the reason that people are so ready to let a so called ‘expert’ handle everything is because the technical aspect can seem so confusing and difficult. It seems that just about everyday I get enquiries from people asking about things like newsletter software, taking payments online, how to deliver digital products from your website, etc.
Some people find all the technical side so overwhelming, that even if they know what they should be doing, they stay stuck. I can definitely relate to this one. It took me two years to get my first online sale, mainly because I couldn’t afford to hire a webdesigner to build me a site or a copywriter to write my sales letter and so had to teach myself in the evening after getting home from work.
Boy, that was a hard two years … but I got there in the end …
These days, there are plenty more options available, so it doesn’t have to take you anything like two years. In fact, I’d like to make your route to a profitable website as short and fast as it can possibly be, and so …
I’ve teamed up with ‘marketing expert’ Bernadette Doyle to bring you a powerful solution that combines my technical expertise with her marketing “know-how” …
Bernadette is an incredibly successful UK marketer who has been able to generate a substantial full-time income, working only part-time - in fact, by her third year of being in business, was generating £70K a month in sales! Not too shabby, I’m sure you’ll agree …
She now consults with businesses large and small showing them how they can use these same methods to get these types of results …
And so Bernadette and I are joining forces to run a special one-off Masterclass called ‘“Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Website Marketing But Didn’t Know Who To Ask!“
