Yesterday Yahoo added another social tool to their collection of assets after purchasing the social bookmarking service, Del.icio.us …

“So?” you say …

I say “This is a BIG DEAL ™” …

Why? Companies like Yahoo, don’t just buy these sites for the hell of it … they’re either seeing monetary or promotional potential …

Del.icio.us allow users to post their Favorites/Bookmarks online to use from any computer, but also allows other people to view them too …

You can also tag the bookmarks so they’re organized and grouped together …

For instance, you might add my humble blog to your Del.icio.us account with the tag “internet marketing” …

You can search for tags on your own account, but more importantly, other people can too …

So if someone does a search on Del.icio.us for “internet marketing” your bookmark would show up …

“So? How is this news good for my business?”

Can you say “Viral Marketing” …?

You could generate some traffic, by getting a number of people to post a bookmark to your website in their Del.icio.us account …

What happens when a lot of people talk about a website …? People go and see what all the fuss is about … it’s the “social proof” (or watercooler) effect in operation …

Del.icio.us is just one of the Web 2.0 “tools” out there you can harness for your business … so get yourself an account and start generating some “buzz” …

What do you guys think …?
